What is Vominorm (Metoclopramide Hcl)?
Vominorm Tablets contain a medicine called Metoclopramide hydrochloride. Famous brand names are: Reglan and Metozolv ODT.
Vominorm is also used in diabetic patients who have poor emptying of their stomachs (gastroparesis). Treating gastroparesis can decrease symptoms of nausea, vomiting, and stomach/abdominal fullness.
Vominorm works by blocking a natural substance (dopamine). It speeds up stomach emptying and movement of the upper intestines.
Recommendations for use of Vominorm (Metoclopramide Hcl)
Vominorm is used to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) that causes symptoms. GERD occurs when acid flows up from your stomach. This causes heartburn. It may also harm your esophagus (the tube that connects your mouth to your stomach). This drug is used to relieve heartburn and heal sores in your esophagus when other treatments haven't worked.
Vominorm is also used to treat diabetic gastroparesis. Gastroparesis happens when your stomach takes too long to empty its contents. Symptoms may include nausea, vomiting, heartburn, loss of appetite, and feeling full long after meals.
Vominorm 10mg may be used as part of a combination therapy. This means you may need to take it with other medications to treat your condition.
Dosage and direction of taking Vominorm (Metoclopramide Hcl)
Read the Medication Guide and the Patient Information Leaflet provided by your pharmacist before you start using Vominorm and each time you get a refill. If you have any questions, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
Vominorm is often given 10mg tablets up to 4 times a day 30 minutes before meals and at bedtime, depending upon symptoms being treated and clinical response./p>
The dosage is based on your age, medical condition, and response to treatment. In children, the dosage may also be based on weight. Do not increase your dose or take this medication more often than directed.
Do not take for longer than 12 weeks. If your symptoms worsen or do not improve after 8 weeks talk to your doctor or pharmacist
If you feel the effect of your medicine is too weak or too strong, do not change the dose yourself, but ask your doctor
Call your doctor if your symptoms do not improve, or if they get worse while using Vominorm.
Missed Dose of Vominorm (Metoclopramide Hcl)
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. Skip the missed dose if it is almost time to take your next dose. Do not take an dose of medicine to make up the missed dose.
Overdose of Vominorm (Metoclopramide Hcl)
If you think you have taken more than the required dose contact a poison control center or emergency room at once. NOTE: This medicine is only for you. Do not share this medicine with others.
Overdose symptoms may include overactive reflexes, loss of coordination, severe drowsiness or weakness, fainting, dilated pupils, weak or shallow breathing, or seizure (convulsions).
How does Vominorm (Metoclopramide Hcl) work?
Vominorm 10mg Tablet is used in the treatment of diabetes, stomach and intestinal diseases. Vominorm 10mg Tablet falls under the category of drugs known as dopamine-receptor antagonists.
Vominorm works by inhibiting gastric smooth muscle relaxation caused by dopamine. This improves the response of the gastrointestinal smooth muscles to cholinergic stimulation, which leads to an increase in gastric emptying into the intestines. It antagonises the dopamine D2 receptors in the medulla which prevents nausea and vomiting.
Precautions before taking Vominorm (Metoclopramide Hcl)
DO NOT use Vominorm if you have or had muscle movement problems such as "tardive dyskinesia" bofore or after using metoclopramide or similar medicines.
DO NOT take Vominorm if you have or had stomach or intestinal problems (a blockage, bleeding, or a hole or tear), epilepsy or other seizure disorder, or an adrenal gland tumor (pheochromocytoma).
You should not use Vominorm (metoclopramide) if you are allergic to it, or if you have:
tardive dyskinesia (a disorder of involuntary movements)
stomach or intestinal problems such as a blockage, bleeding, or perforation (a hole or tear in your stomach or intestines)
epilepsy or other seizure disorder
an adrenal gland tumor (pheochromocytoma)
if you've ever had muscle movement problems after using metoclopramide or similar medicines.
Before taking Vominorm, tell your doctor if you have:
liver or kidney disease
problems with muscle movements
congestive heart failure or a heart rhythm disorder
high blood pressure
seizures
breast cancer
Parkinson's disease
diabetes
depression or mental illness.
This medicine may contain phenylalanine. Check the medication label if you have phenylketonuria (PKU).
Tell your doctor if you are pregnant. Vominorm may harm an unborn baby if you use the medicine during pregnancy.
It may not be safe to breast-feed a baby while you are using Vominorm. Ask your doctor about any risks.
Vominorm is not approved for use by anyone younger than 18 years old.
If you have any of these conditions, you may not be able to use Vominorm or you may need a dosage adjustment or special tests during treatment.
Be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be alert. Avoid getting up too fast from a sitting or lying position, or you may feel dizzy. Get up slowly and steady yourself to prevent a fall.
Drinking alcohol can increase certain side effects of Vominorm. Do not drink alcohol while taking this medication.
About other prescription and nonprescription medicines, vitamins, nutritional supplements, and herbal products you are taking or plan to take. Taking Vominorm together with certain medicines or products may cause serious, life-threatening side effects.
Side Effects of Vominorm (Metoclopramide Hcl)
Vominorm may have unwanted side effects in some people. All medicines can have side effects. Sometimes they are serious, most of the time they are not. You may need medical treatment if you get some of the side effects.
Tell your pharmacist or doctor as soon as possible if you do not feel well while you are taking Vominorm.
The more common side effects of metoclopramide can include:
headache or confusion
feeling drowsy or tired
dizziness
restlessness
sleep problems (insomnia)
exhaustion or lack of energy
If these effects are mild, they may go away within a few days or a couple of weeks. If the above side effects are more serious do talk to your doctor or pharmacist.
Tell your pharmacist or doctor immediately if you notice any of the following Serious Side Effects:
Depression and suicide, which may include (sadness, lack of motivation, thoughts of harming or killing yourself)
Neuroleptic malignant syndrome (nervous system disorder), which may include (high fever, trouble thinking, fast or irregular heart rate, stiff muscles, and or increased sweating)
Tardive dyskinesia, a movement disorder that can be permanent
Parkinsonism (symptoms similar to those caused by Parkinson's disease)
Allergic reaction, such as rashes, hives, trouble breathing, swelling of your tongue, lips, or throat
Hyperprolactinemia (increased levels of the hormone prolactin)
Erectile dysfunction, decreased body hair and muscle mass, and increased breast size in men
Hallucinations (seeing or hearing things that aren't there)
The above list includes very serious side effects. You may need urgent medical attention or hospitalisation. These side effects are very rare. Tell your pharmacist or doctor if you notice anything that is making you feel unwell.
Other side effects not listed above may occur in some patients. Do not be alarmed by the lists of possible side effects. You may not experience any of them. Ask your pharmacist or doctor if you have any questions.
Interaction with Vominorm (Metoclopramide Hcl)
Inform your doctor about any medications that you are taking including prescription medications, over the counter medications, vitamins, supplements and herbal remedies. Do not start, stop and change the dosage of any medicine without your doctor's permission.
Drinking alcohol with this medicine can cause side effects.
Avoid driving or hazardous activity until you know how this medicine will affect you. Your reactions could be impaired.
Also tell your doctor if you are using any of the following medicines:
acetaminophen
cyclosporine
digoxin
glycopyrrolate
insulin
levodopa
mepenzolate
tetracycline
atropine
bladder or urinary medications such as darifenacin, flavoxate, oxybutynin, tolterodine, or solifenacin
blood pressure medications
bronchodilators such as ipratroprium or tiotropium
irritable bowel medications such as dicyclomine, hyoscyamine, or propantheline
an MAO inhibitor such as furazolidone, isocarboxazid, phenelzine, rasagiline, selegiline, or tranylcypromine
medicines to treat psychiatric disorders, such as chlorpromazine, clozapine, haloperidol, olanzapine, prochlorperazine, risperidone, thiothixene, and others.
This list is not complete and there are many other medicines that can interact with Vominorm. Tell your doctor about all your prescription and over-the-counter medications, vitamins, minerals, herbal products, and drugs prescribed by other doctors. Do not start a new medication without telling your doctor. Keep a list with you of all the medicines you use and show this list to any doctor or other healthcare provider who treats you.
Storage of Vominorm (Metoclopramide Hcl)
Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
Store at 15°C - 30°C (59°F - 77°F)
protect drug from excessive light, humidity, and temperature over 30°C (86°F)
Keep Vominorm tablets in the container that they came in and keep the container tightly closed.
Throw away capsules that are no longer needed or expired (out of date).
Medicines should not be disposed of via waste water or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines no longer required. This will help to protect the environment.
Vominorm should not be used after the given expiration date.
