Amlodipine is used to treat high blood pressure with or without other medicine. Lowering high blood pressure helps prevent strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems. Amlodipine belongs to a class of drugs known as calcium channel blockers. It works by relaxing blood vessels so blood can flow more easily. Amlodipine is also used to prevent certain types of chest pain (angina). It may help to increase your ability to exercise and decrease the frequency of angina attacks. It should not be used to treat attacks of chest pain when they occur. Use other medications (such as sublingual nitroglycerin) to relieve attacks of chest pain as directed by your doctor.

Dosage and direction of taking Amlodipine (Generic Norvasc)

Take Amlodipine orally as prescribed by your doctor with a full glass of water with or without food usually once a day.
Your dosage will be decided upon your medical condition, age, laboratory tests, your response to the medication and other medications that you are taking.
Take Amlodipine exactly as it was prescribed for you. Do not take in doses which are either larger or for longer than what is recommended by your doctor.
Take Amlodipine usually once a day by mouth with a glass of water or as directed by your doctor. Take Amlodipine after meals.

Though Amlodipine prevents chest pain (angina) some patients who already have severe heart disease may rarely develop worsening chest pain or a heart attack when you start to take this medication or increase the dose. If you experience any of the following get medical help immediately.

Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
Store at 15°C - 30°C (59°F - 77°F); protect drug from excessive light, humidity, and temperature over 30°C (86°F)
Keep Amlodipine tablets in the container that they came in and keep the container tightly closed.
Throw away capsules that are no longer needed or expired (out of date).
