What is Prebel (Pregabalin)?
Prebel (Pregabalin) is an oral capsule which is used to treat neuropathic pain caused by nerve damage (neuropathic pain) due to diabetes, shingles (herpes zoster infection), or spinal cord injury, partial onset seizures when taken with other seizure drugs or other conditions. It is also used to treat widespread muscle pain and stiffness in people with fibromyalgia.
Prebel 150mg Capsule belongs to the anti-epileptic group of medicines and can be used to treat certain types of seizures (fits) in combination with other medicines. It may also be prescribed to treat the symptoms of anxiety disorder if other medicines are not suitable.
Recommendations for use of Prebel (Pregabalin)
pain from damaged nerves (neuropathic pain) that happens with diabetes
pain from damaged nerves (neuropathic pain) that follows healing of shingles (herpes zoster infection)
fibromyalgia (pain all over your body)
pain from damaged nerves (neuropathic pain) that follows spinal cord injury
Dosage and direction of taking Prebel (Pregabalin)
Read the Medication Guide and the Patient Information Leaflet provided by your pharmacist before you start using Prebel and each time you get a refill. If you have any questions, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
Prebel may be taken with or without food. The dosage range is 25 - 600mg daily in single or divided doses.
Take Prebel with a glass of water usually with or without food as food does not change absorption of the medication.
Your dosage will be decided upon your medical condition, age, laboratory tests, your response to the medication and other medications that you are taking. Take Prebel exactly as it was prescribed for you. Do not take in doses which are either larger or for longer than what is recommended by your doctor.
Inform your doctor about any medications that you are taking including prescription medications, over the counter medications, vitamins, supplements and herbal remedies.
If you missed a dose take it as soon as you remember. If it is too close to your next dose then skip the missed dose and take the regular dose. Should never double the dose in order to make up for the missed dose.
Do not stop taking Prebel or altering your dose without discussing with your doctor.
Call your doctor if your symptoms do not improve, or if they get worse while using Prebel.
Missed Dose of Prebel (Pregabalin)
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. Skip the missed dose if it is almost time to take your next dose. Do not take an dose of medicine to make up the missed dose.
Overdose of Prebel (Pregabalin)
If you think you have taken more than the required dose contact a poison control center or emergency room at once. NOTE: This medicine is only for you. Do not share this medicine with others.
How does Prebel (Pregabalin) work?
Prebel (Pregabalin) belongs to anti-epileptic group of medicines. A class of drugs is a group of medications that work in a similar way. These drugs are often used to treat similar conditions.
It isn't known exactly how pregabalin works. It's believed to work by calming the damaged or overactive nerves in your body that may cause pain or seizures.
Precautions before taking Prebel (Pregabalin)
patient with kidney problems: If you have kidney problems or a history of kidney disease
patient with heart problems: Ask your doctor whether this drug is safe for you if you have heart problems, such as moderate to severe heart failure. This drug can make your condition worse.

For pregnant women: Talk to your doctor if you're pregnant or planning to become pregnant. This drug should only be used if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk.
For women who are breastfeeding: Pregabalin passes into breast milk in small amounts. Therefore, it may cause side effects in a child who is breastfed.
For men with plans to father a child this drug may make the patient less fertile.
For seniors, the drug will retain in the kidneys for a longer period and raises the risk of side effects
For children: This drug hasn't been studied in children. It shouldn't be used in children younger than 18 years.
About other prescription and nonprescription medicines, vitamins, nutritional supplements, and herbal products you are taking or plan to take. Taking Prebel together with certain medicines or products may cause serious, life-threatening side effects.
Side Effects of Prebel (Pregabalin)
Prebel may have unwanted side effects in some people. All medicines can have side effects. Sometimes they are serious, most of the time they are not. You may need medical treatment if you get some of the side effects.
Tell your pharmacist or doctor as soon as possible if you do not feel well while you are taking Prebel.
The more common side effects of Prebel (Pregabalin) can include:
dizziness
sleepiness
trouble concentrating
blurry vision
dry mouth
weight gain
swelling of your hands or feet
If these effects are mild, they may go away within a few days or a couple of weeks. If the above side effects are more serious do talk to your doctor or pharmacist.
Tell your pharmacist or doctor immediately if you notice any of the following Serious Side Effects:
Serious allergic reactions. These reactions may be life-threatening. Symptoms which includes swelling of your face, mouth, lips, gums, tongue, throat, or neck, trouble breathing and rash, hives (raised bumps), or blisters
Suicidal thoughts or actions. Symptoms can include thoughts of suicide or dying, attempts to commit suicide, new or worsened depression or anxiety along with feeling agitated or restless, panic attacks, trouble sleeping, acting aggressive, angry, or violent, and other unusual changes in behavior or mood
Heart problems. Symptoms can include swelling of your hands, legs, or feet, chest pain, Dizziness and sleepiness
The above list includes very serious side effects. You may need urgent medical attention or hospitalisation. These side effects are very rare. Tell your pharmacist or doctor if you notice anything that is making you feel unwell.
Other side effects not listed above may occur in some patients. Do not be alarmed by the lists of possible side effects. You may not experience any of them. Ask your pharmacist or doctor if you have any questions.
Interaction with Prebel (Pregabalin)
Inform your doctor about any medications that you are taking including prescription medications, over the counter medications, vitamins, supplements and herbal remedies. Do not start, stop and change the dosage of any medicine without your doctor's permission.
You should NOT use Prebel if you are allergic to Pregabalin, or if you have:
Diabetes drugs, such as rosiglitazone and pioglitazone. Taking these drugs with pregabalin may cause weight gain or swelling of your hands or feet. If you have heart problems, taking these drugs together can increase your risk of heart failure.
Narcotic pain drugs, such as oxycodone. Taking these drugs with pregabalin may cause dizziness and sleepiness.
Tranquilizers (drugs that make you sleepy) or drugs for anxiety, such as lorazepam. Taking these drugs with pregabalin may cause dizziness and sleepiness.
Blood pressure drugs, such as captopril, enalapril, or lisinopril. Taking these drugs with pregabalin may cause swelling and hives.
Taking Prebel (Pregabalin) with certain medications may cause more side effects. These drugs include:

Storage of Prebel (Pregabalin)
Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
Store at 15°C - 30°C (59°F - 86°F)

Keep Prebel tablets in the container that they came in and keep the container tightly closed.
Throw away capsules that are no longer needed or expired (out of date).
Medicines should not be disposed of via waste water or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines no longer required. This will help to protect the environment.
Prebel should not be used after the given expiration date.
