Trioday Tablet is a prescription medicine used to treat HIV infection in adults and children weighing at least 40 kg. Trioday Tablet is a complete HIV (human Immune deficiency Virus) and hepatitis B treatment regimen and should not be used with other HIV medicines.

Trioday Tablet is a three-drug combination of efavirenz 600 mg (EFV), a non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor, and lamivudine 300 mg (3TC) and tenofovir disoproxil fumarate 300 mg (TDF), both nucleo(t)side reverse transcriptase inhibitors and is indicated as a complete regimen for the treatment of human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) infection in adult and pediatric patients weighing at least 40 kg.

Trioday tablet is not a cure by any means. What it does is to prevent HIV cells from multiplying and progressing to AIDS there by increasing the number of infection fighting cells in the body.



What is Trioday Tablet?

Trioday Tablet is a prescription medicine used to treat HIV infection in adults and children weighing at least 40 kg. Trioday Tablet is a complete HIV treatment regimen and should not be used with other HIV medicines.

Trioday Tablet contains three different medicines: efavirenz, lamivudine, and tenofovir disoproxil fumarate.

The medicine combination allow to boosts up the immunity system to fight against HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) to manage or treat AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome).

Recommendations for use of Trioday Tablet

Trioday Tablet helps restrict growth of HIV in the body and thus reducing the risk of getting HIV-related complications to improve life.

Trioday Tablet is not a cure for HIV infection. To decrease your risk of spreading HIV disease to others, you should continue to take all HIV medications exactly as prescribed by your doctor. HIV medicines can't cure HIV/AIDS, but taking this medicine which is a combination of HIV medicines (called an HIV regimen) every day helps people with HIV live longer, healthier lives. HIV medicines also reduce the risk of HIV transmission.

Always use an effective barrier method (latex or polyurethane condoms/dental dams) during sexual activity, and never share personal items such as needles/syringes, toothbrushes, and razors, that may have contacted blood or other body fluids. Consult your doctor or pharmacist for more details.

Dosage and direction of taking

Trioday Tablet (brand name: Symfi) comes in tablet form. Each tablet contains:
600 mg efavirenz (brand name: Sustiva)
300 mg lamivudine (brand name: Epivir)
300 mg tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (brand name: Viread)

Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it.

Trioday Tablet should be taken in an empty stomach, preferably at bedtime for better efficacy. Taking these medicines regularly at the same time increases their effectiveness. A dose of this medicine must not be missed as it can affect your recovery.

The dosage is based on your weight, medical condition, and response to treatment including other medications you may be taking. Be sure to tell your doctor and pharmacist about all the products you use (including prescription drugs, nonprescription drugs, and herbal products).

Continue to take Trioday Tablet for the full length of time prescribed, even if your symptoms disappear after a short time. Stopping any of the drugs too early may result in a return of the infection.

Avoid drinking alcohol while taking Natdac. Alcohol may increase your risk of pancreatitis (pain and swelling of your pancreas) or liver damage.

It is very important to continue taking Trioday Tablet exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not skip any doses. Refill your medication before you run out.

Missed Dose of Trioday Tablet
If you miss a dose of Trioday Tablet, take the missed dose as soon as you remember it. But if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and just take your next dose at the regular time. Do not take two doses at the same time to make up for a missed dose.

Overdose of Trioday Tablet
Do not take more or less of this drug than prescribed or stop taking it even for a short time unless directed to do so by your doctor. Skipping or changing your dose without approval from your doctor may cause the amount of virus to increase, make the infection more difficult to treat (resistant), or worsen side effects. If overdose seek emergency medical treatment or contact the doctor immediately.

Common use Trioday Tablet

Trioday Tablet is a combination of three antiviral medicines which are Efavirenz 600 mg, Lamivudine 300 mg and Tenofovir disoproxil fumarate 300 mg. Tablets work by preventing HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) from multiplying, which reduces the amount of virus in your body. They also increase the CD4 cell (white blood cells that protect against infection) count in your blood. This helps in reducing the chances of development of AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome) and other HIV-related illnesses.

Precautions of taking Trioday Tablet

Before taking Trioday Tablet, tell your doctor, if you have:

  • allergic reactions to any of the HIV medicines in Trioday Tablet (efavirenz, lamivudine, and tenofovir disoproxil fumarate) or any other medicines.
  • liver problems, including HBV infection or HCV infection.
  • kidney problems, including end-stage renal disease (ESRD) that requires dialysis.
  • a history of mental health problems.
  • alcoholic beverages. Avoid alcoholic beverages as they may increase your risk for liver problems and/or pancreatitis.
  • a heart problem, including QT prolongation.
  • bone problems, including a history of bone fractures.
  • a history of seizures.
  • any other medical conditions.
  • If you are pregnant or are planning to become pregnant. You should not become pregnant during treatment with Trioday Tablet because Trioday may harm your unborn baby. You should use effective birth control during treatment with Trioday and for 12 weeks after stopping treatment. A barrier form of birth control should always be used along with another type of birth control. Tell your doctor right away if you think you may be pregnant or become pregnant during treatment with Trioday.

    If you are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed. Do not breastfeed if you have HIV or are taking Trioday Tablet.

    If you are using hormone-based birth control (such as pills, implants, or vaginal rings). A barrier form of birth control should always be used along with another type of birth control.     About other prescription and nonprescription medicines, vitamins, nutritional supplements, and herbal products you are taking or plan to take. Trioday Tablet may affect the way other medicines or products work, and other medicines or products may affect how Trioday works. Taking Trioday together with certain medicines or products may cause serious side effects.

    You can still pass on HIV when taking this medicine, so it's important to take precautions to avoid infecting other people through sexual contact or blood transfer. This medicine is not a cure for HIV infection and you may continue to develop infections or other illnesses associated with HIV disease.

    Side Effects of taking Trioday Tablet

    Remember that your doctor has prescribed this medication because he or she has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects.

    Trioday Tablet may cause side effects. Many side effects from HIV medicines, such as headache, nausea or occasional dizziness, are quite manageable.If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor or pharmacist promptly.

  • Inflammation of the pancreas (pancreatitis). Some children may be at risk of developing pancreatitis while taking Trioday. Contact your doctor right away if your child develops signs and symptoms of pancreatitis including severe upper stomach-area pain, with or without nausea and vomiting.
  • Seizures.
  • Increases in blood fat levels, such as cholesterol and triglycerides.
  • Bone problems (bone pain, softening or thinning).
  • Changes in your immune system (called immune reconstitution inflammatory syndrome or IRIS). IRIS is a condition that sometimes occurs when the immune system begins to recover after treatment with an HIV medicine. As the immune system gets stronger, it may have an increased response to a previously hidden infection.
  • Changes in body fat (lipodystrophy syndrome).
  • QT prolongation, which is a heart disorder that causes irregular heartbeats. QT prolongation can be life-threatening. Contact your doctor if you feel faint, lightheaded, dizzy, or feel your heart beating irregularly or fast during treatment with Trioday.
  • Tell your health care provider if you have any side effect that bothers you or that does not go away.
  • Drug interaction with Trioday tablets

    Inform your doctor about any medications that you are taking including prescription medications, over the counter medications, vitamins, supplements and herbal remedies. Do not start, stop and change the dosage of any medicine without your doctor's permission.

    Trioday tablets may make you dizzy. Consumption of alcohol or marijuana can increase the risk of drowsiness. Do not operate machinery, drive a car or do anything that require alertness until you can do it safely. Understand how this medication affects you.

    IMPORTANT: Inform the doctor, if you are currently taking any of the following medicines:

  • Amiodarone
  • Aspirin
  • Azithromycin
  • Ciprofloxacin
  • Cisplatin
  • Citalopram
  • Fluconazole

  • Tobramycin

  • Hepatotoxicity - Trioday should be used with extreme caution in patients with liver diseases due to the increased risk of worsening of the patient's condition. Liver function should be closely assessed before initiating and during treatment with this medicine. Replacement with a suitable alternative may be necessary based on the clinical condition of the patient.
  • Hypercholesterolemia - Trioday should be used with extreme caution in patients with high cholesterol and triglycerides levels due to the increased risk of worsening of the patient's condition. Frequent monitoring of lipid levels is advised in patients receiving this medicine. Replacement with a suitable alternative may be necessary based on the clinical condition of the patient.
  • CNS disorders - Trioday should be used with extreme caution in patients with a known history of CNS disorders due to the increased risk of worsening of the patient's condition. Close monitoring of such patients for any change in behavior or mood is recommended. Appropriate dose adjustments or replacement with a suitable alternative may be required based on the clinical condition.
  • Renal Dysfunction - Trioday should be used with extreme caution in patients with mild to moderate renal impairment due to the increased risk of severe adverse effects. This medicine is not recommended for use in patients with a creatinine clearance of less than 50 ml/min. Renal function should be assessed before initiating the treatment. Appropriate dose adjustments or replacement with a suitable alternative may be necessary based on the clinical condition of the patient.

    Storage of Trioday tablets

    Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
    Store at 15°C - 30°C (59°F - 77°F); protect drug from excessive light, humidity, and temperature over 30°C (86°F)

    Throw away capsules that are no longer needed or expired (out of date).
