What is Hepcvir L?
Hepcvir L™ is an antiviral medication formulated by Cipla, original brand Harvoni™. Hepcvir L Tablet is a combination of two antiviral medicines; Ledipasvir (90mg) and Sofosbuvir (400mg). Hepcvir L is a prescripted medicine which is used in the treatment of chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection.
Recommendations for use of Hepcvir L
Hepcvir L is used to treat chronic (long-lasting) hepatitis C, a viral infection of the liver.
These drugs work by reducing the amount of hepatitis C virus in your body, which helps your immune system fight the infection and may help your liver recover.
Hepcvir L is not a cure for HIV infection or AIDS. To decrease your risk of spreading HIV disease to others, you should continue to take all HIV medications exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Always use an effective barrier method (latex or polyurethane condoms/dental dams) during sexual activity, and never share personal items such as needles/syringes, toothbrushes, and razors, that may have contacted blood or other body fluids. Consult your doctor or pharmacist for more details.
Please NOTE: HIV medicines can't cure HIV/AIDS, but taking a combination of HIV medicines (called an HIV regimen) every day helps people with HIV live longer, healthier lives. HIV medicines also reduce the risk of HIV transmission. If you are taking HIV medicines, including Hepcvir L, don't cut down on, skip, or stop taking them unless your health care provider tells you to.
Dosage and direction of taking Hepcvir L
Hepcvir L Tablet should be taken in the prescribed dose and duration suggested by your doctor.
It can be taken with or without food, but take it at the same time daily.
It is advised not to consume more than the recommended dose
Take Hepcvir L once daily after a meal with a glass of water. Morning is preferred as it may reduce sleeping disorders.
For best results you must not miss any doses. The treatment usually lasts 8 to 24 weeks.
The dosage is based on your weight, medical condition, and response to treatment including other medications you may be taking. Be sure to tell your doctor and pharmacist about all the products you use (including prescription drugs, nonprescription drugs, and herbal products).
How Hepcvir L work
Hepcvir L Tablet is a combination medicine used for the treatment of chronic hepatitis C infection. This medicine should be used with extreme caution in patients with a known history of hepatitis B infection due to the increased risk of serious adverse reactions.
Precautions while taking Hepcvir L
Hepcvir L must be taken with other medicines that act against the HIV virus. If Hepcvir L has been started since unable to prevent multiplication of the virus, therefore, along with this you must start another medicine you have not taken before at the same time.
You can still pass on HIV when taking this medicine, so it's important to take precautions to avoid infecting other people through sexual contact or blood transfer. This medicine is not a cure for HIV infection and you may continue to develop infections or other illnesses associated with HIV disease.
Hepcvir L should not be taken with other medications which contain sofosbuvir.
Patients who are undergoing dialysis, having kidney problems and liver problems are not recommended to use MyhepLvr.
You should not consume antacids which contains aluminum and magnesium for few hours after taking Hepcvir L.
Hepcvir L may cause dizziness so patients are advised not to drive or operate machinery.
If you are awaiting for a liver transplant or have liver problem discuss with your doctor.
You must remain under the care of your doctor while taking Hepcvir L.
Tell your doctor, if you have:
any allergic reactions to either of the HIV medicines in Hepcvir L or it's individual components Ledipasvir and Sofosbuvir or any other medicines.
been tested and know whether you have a particular gene variation called HLA-B*5701.
had liver problems, including hepatitis B virus infection (HBV) or hepatitis C virus infection (HCV).
kidney problems.
smoked or currently smoking or having heart problems or have diseases that increase your risk of heart disease, such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or diabetes.
any other medical conditions.
or drinking alcohol or take medicines that contain alcohol.
If you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. Talk to your doctor about the risks and benefits of taking Hepcvir L during pregnancy.
If you are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed. Do not breastfeed if you have HIV or are taking Hepcvir L.
About other prescription and nonprescription medicines, vitamins, nutritional supplements, and herbal products you are taking or plan to take. Hepcvir L may affect the way other medicines or products work, and other medicines or products may affect how Hepcvir L works. Taking Hepcvir L together with certain medicines or products may cause serious, life-threatening side effects.
Side Effects of taking Hepcvir L
As with all medications some people experience certain side effects. Inform your doctor immediately if your reactions persists or worsen.
nausea
fatigue
anemia
insomnia
irritation
pain in the muscles
headache
diarrhea
cough
If you experience any of the following side effects inform your doctor immediately.
Difficulty in breathing
Shivering
Cramps
Decreased appetite
Dizziness
Problems in concentrating
Remember that your doctor has prescribed this medication because he or she has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects.
Drug interaction with Hepcvir L
Inform your doctor about any medications that you are taking including prescription medications, over the counter medications, vitamins, supplements and herbal remedies. Do not start, stop and change the dosage of any medicine without your doctor's permission.
Avoid taking alcohol while you are taking Hepcvir L.
IMPORTANT: Inform the doctor, if you are currently taking any of the following medicines:
Carbamazepine
Rifampicin
Fosphenytoin
Digoxin
Amiodarone
Linagliptin
Storage of Hepcvir L
Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
Store at 15°C - 30°C (59°F - 77°F); protect drug from excessive light, humidity, and temperature over 30°C (86°F)
Keep Hepcvir L in the container till you handover to your health provider.
Throw away any Injection that are no longer needed or expired (out of date).
Medicines should not be disposed of via waste water or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines no longer required. This will help to protect the environment.
Hepcvir L should not be used after the given expiration date.
