What is Rivaroxaban 10mg (Xarelto™) used for?
Rivaroxaban 10mg is used to prevent stroke in people with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation
Also prevent and treat blood clots in your blood vessels. These blood clots often form in certain veins in your legs and are called deep vein thromboses (DVT). These clots can travel to the lungs, causing pulmonary embolisms.
Rivaroxaban 10mg also helps prevent DVT after hip or knee replacement surgery
And reduce the risk of major heart problems such as heart attack or stroke in people with chronic coronary artery disease (CAD) or peripheral artery disease (PAD)
Recommended use of Rivaroxaban 10mg (Xarelto™)
Rivaroxaban helps prevent blood clots from forming by blocking a substance known as factor Xa. When factor Xa is blocked, it decreases the amount of an enzyme called thrombin in your body. Thrombin is a substance in your blood that's needed to form clots. When thrombin is decreased, this prevents a clot from forming.
Heart attack, stroke, and other major heart problems can be caused by a blood clot. Because this drug reduces the risk of forming a blood clot, it also reduces the risk of these problems.
Dosage and direction of taking Rivaroxaban 10mg (Xarelto™)
Read the Medication Guide and the Patient Information Leaflet provided by your pharmacist before you start using Meropenem and each time you get a refill. If you have any questions, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
Rivaroxaban 10mg is to be taken orally, and the dosage is decided by the discretion of the doctor. Generally, if the purpose of the medication is for avert blood clotting post hip or knee replacement surgeries, it is recommended that one tablet is taken per day.
If the medication is concerned with averting blood clots due to an arrythmia, it is recommended that one Rivaroxaban 10mg tablet is taken with dinner.
Dosage must not be increased or stopped unless under the discretion of your doctor. Rivaroxaban 10mg tablets can be taken on an empty stomach or with meals.
If you are taking Rivaroxaban 10mg to treat blood clots, for the first 3 weeks, take it twice a day and continue to take it once a day thereafter.
If tablets cannot be swallowed as whole, they can be mashed and mixed into soft foods and immediately consumed.
If you have forgotten to take a tablet at the correct time, you must take it immediately. If it is almost time to take your next dose, do not compensate for what is missed and carry on with the rest of your doses.
Make sure to take Rivaroxaban 10mg regularly to get the most benefit from it. To help you to remember easier take Rivaroxaban 10mg at the same time each day.
Missed Dose of Rivaroxaban 10mg
Take a missed dose as soon as you think about it on the same day you missed the dose.
If you do not think about the missed dose until the next day, skip the missed dose and go back to your normal time.
Do not take 2 doses at the same time or extra doses.
Overdose of Rivaroxaban 10mg (Xarelto™)
If you take more than your prescribed dose of this drug, you have a greater risk of bleeding, which can be fatal. Please call your doctor or seek emergency medical treatment.
Common use of Rivaroxaban 10mg
Meropenem exerts it's bactericidal action by interfering with the vital bacterial cell wall synthesis. The ease with which it penetrates bacterial cells, its high level of stability to all serine B-lactamases and its marked affinity for the Penicillin Binding Proteins (PBP) explains the potent bactericidal activity of Meropenem against a broad spectrum of aerobic and anaerobic bacteria.
Precautions before taking Rivaroxaban 10mg
Tell your doctor, if you:
are allergic to rivaroxaban / Xarelto or any other drugs, foods, or substances and describe your allergy signs.
have bleeding problems (especially in your stomach/intestines, brain).
have any of these health problems: Kidney disease or liver disease.
have had a heart valve replaced.
blood disorders (hemophilia, anemia, thrombocytopenia)
recent major surgery or injury
have antiphospholipid syndrome (APS).
certainhereditary enzyme problems (galactose intolerance, glucose-galactosemalabsorption, Lapp lactase deficiency)
certain eye problem (retinopathy)
frequent falls/ injuries
If you take any drugs (prescription or OTC, natural products, vitamins) that must not be taken with rivaroxaban, like certain drugs that are used for HIV, infections, or seizures. There are many drugs that must not be taken with rivaroxaban.
Safety razors and nail cutters are recommended to lower the chance of getting cut, injured or bruised as Rivaroxaban can cause bleeding. For shaving electric shaver and a soft tooth brush to brush teeth.
Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to get pregnant.
Before breast feeding consult your doctor
Side Effects of taking Rivaroxaban 10mg
Your doctor prescribed this medicine after carefully analyzing the benefits over the risks involved. Most people do not experience any serious side effects.
Common side effects may include:
Dizziness
Bruising
Destruction of red blood cells
Nausea
Headache
Inform your doctor immediately if you experience any of the serious but rare mentioned below.
Signs of an allergic reaction, like rash; hives; itching; red, swollen, blistered, or peeling skin with or without fever; wheezing; tightness in the chest or throat; trouble breathing, swallowing, or talking; unusual hoarseness; or swelling of the mouth, face, lips, tongue, or throat.
Signs of bleeding like throwing up or coughing up blood; vomit that looks like coffee grounds; blood in the urine; black, red, or tarry stools; bleeding from the gums; abnormal vaginal bleeding; bruises without a cause or that get bigger; or bleeding you cannot stop.
Weakness on 1 side of the body, trouble speaking or thinking, change in balance, drooping on one side of the face, or blurred eyesight.
Dizziness or passing out.
Very bad headache.
Feeling very tired or weak.
Pain, swelling, or new drainage at wound sites.
Tell your health care provider if you have any side effect that bothers you or that does not go away.
Drug interaction of taking Rivaroxaban 10mg
Inform your doctor about any medications that you are taking including prescription medications, over the counter medications, vitamins, supplements and herbal remedies. Do not start, stop and change the dosage of any medicine without your doctor's permission.
Rivaroxaban oral tablet can interact with several other medications. Different interactions can cause different effects.
Use caution when taking rivaroxaban with NSAIDs. Medicine such as diclofenac, etodolac, fenoprofen, flurbiprofen, ibuprofen, indomethacin, ketoprofen, ketorolac, mefenamic acid, meloxicam
Use caution when taking clopidogrel with rivaroxaban.
Use caution when taking aspirin with rivaroxaban.
DO NOT take rivaroxaban with blood thinners. Anticoagulant drugs and rivaroxaban work in the same manner and will likely causebleed. Medicine such as warfarin, heparin and enoxaparin
DO NOT take rivaroxaban with HIV medications called protease inhibitors. Such as atazanavir, darunavir, fosamprenavir, indinavir, lopinavir/ritonavir, nelfinavir, ritonavir, saquinavir, and tipranavir.
DO NOT take Antifungal drugs such as ketoconazole and itraconazole with rivaroxaban.
DO NOT take Tuberculosis drugs such as rifampin, rifabutin and rifapentine with rivaroxaban.
DO NOT take rivaroxaban with St. John's wort herbal products.
DO NOT take Seizure drugs such as carbamazepine, ethotoin, fosphenytoin, phenytoin, and phenobarbital with rivaroxaban.
Some of the medications which may interact with Rivaroxaban if you have poor kidney function are:
erythromycin
diltiazem
verapamil
dronedarone
If you are taking any of these medicines, tell your doctor immediately. Taking these medicines with rivaroxaban could create the potential for serious and/or life-threatening side-effects or stop rivaroxaban from working properly.
Storage of Rivaroxaban 10mg
Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
Store at 15°C - 30°C (59°F - 77°F); protect drug from excessive light, humidity, and temperature over 30°C (86°F)
Don't store this medication in moist or damp areas, such as bathrooms.
Throw away unused or expired drugs. Do not flush down a toilet or pour down a drain unless you are told to do so. Check with your pharmacist if you have questions about the best way to throw out drugs. There may be drug take-back programs in your area.
Rivaroxaban should not be used after the given expiration date.
