What is progesterone (Endogest 200mg)?
Progesterone, sold under the brand name Prometrium™ originally, now sold in the brand of Endogest™ by BudgetGenerics, is used to treat overgrowth of the lining of the uterus.
It's also prescribed to treat amenorrhea (a lack of menstrual periods) caused by stress, birth control, or other circumstances.
Progesterone is also a naturally occuring hormone that women produce in their ovaries.
As a medication, progesterone is used in hormone replacement therapy (HRT) to increase or replace levels of progesterone that your body may not have or make enough of to carry out certain bodily functions.
Dosage and direction of taking Progesterone (Endogest 200mg)
Read the Medication Guide and the Patient Information Leaflet provided by your pharmacist before you start using progesterone and each time you get a refill. If you have any questions, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
Take Progesterone (Endogest 200mg) exactly as it was prescribed for you. Do not take in doses which are either larger or for longer than recommended by your doctor.
Take one capsule of Progesterone (Endogest 200mg) once a day orally with a full glass of water or as prescribed by doctor.
It is better to take the medication at night as it makes you drowsy.
Progesterone (Endogest 200mg) can be taken with or without food.
Sometimes Progesterone (Endogest 200mg) is prescribed for short time periods eg : 10 - 12 days during each menstrual cycle. Follow the instructions given by your doctor.
You may need to stop taking your dose if you are scheduled for surgery or need bed rest. Let all your doctors know that you are using Progesterone (Endogest 200mg).
While taking Progesterone (Endogest 200mg) it is vital to do physical exams and self-examine your breasts for lumps.
Missed Dose of progesterone (Endogest 200mg)
If you missed a dose take Progesterone (Endogest 200mg) soon as you remember. If it is too close to your next dose then skip the missed dose and take the regular dose. Do not double the dose to make up for the missed dose.
Overdose of progesterone (Endogest 200mg)
If you think you have taken more than the required dose contact a poison control center or emergency room at once. NOTE: This medicine is only for you. Do not share this medicine with others.
How does progesterone (Endogest 200mg) work?
Progesterone is a hormone released by the ovaries. Changing progesterone levels can contribute to abnormal menstrual periods and menopausal symptoms. Progesterone is also necessary for implantation of the fertilized egg in the uterus and for maintaining pregnancy.
Precautions before taking progesterone (Endogest 200mg)
Prior to taking progesterone (Endogest 200mg) inform your doctor if you.
have liver disease
have peanut allergy
have abnormal vaginal bleeding
have a history of breast cancer or genital cancer
have had a stroke or blood clot, congestive heart failure recently (within the past 12 months)
have had a heart attack (within the past 12 months)
had a miscarriage or ectopic
are pregnant
have any allergies to progesterone (Endogest 200mg) or any of its ingredients or any other allergy
Taking progesterone (Endogest 200mg) may increase the risk of blood clots, heart attacks, strokes or breast cancer.

Side Effects of progesterone (Endogest 200mg)
Your doctor prescribed this medicine after carefully analyzing the benefits over the risks involved. Most people do not experience any serious side effects. However, you may experience the following side effects.

weight gain
changes in appetite
fatigue
acne
edema (water retention and swelling)
painful or tender breasts
vomiting
blood clots
missed periods
altered menstrual cycles
drowsiness or insomnia

Interactions with alcohol may cause dehydration which may dry the mucous membranes. Speak to your doctor to seek advice.

Adempas (riociguat - prescribed for Pulmonary hypertension)

progesterone (Endogest 200mg) is not recommended for use in pregnant women as it may cause harm to the fetus. Inform your doctor if you get pregnant while you are on this medication.
progesterone (Endogest 200mg) not recommended for use in breast feeding women as it may harm the baby.
Grapefruit and grapefruit juice interactions are not clear so it is best to avoid grapefruit juice while you are taking progesterone (Endogest 200mg).
Storage of progesterone (Endogest 200mg)
Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
Store at 15°C - 30°C (59°F - 77°F); protect drug from excessive light, humidity, and temperature over 30°C (86°F)
Keep progesterone tablets in the container that they came in and keep the container tightly closed.
Throw away capsules that are no longer needed or expired (out of date).
Medicines should not be disposed of via waste water or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines no longer required. This will help to protect the environment.
