How to use Isotretinoin 10 mg (Accutane 10 mg)?
Take Isotretinoin 10 mg (Accutane 10 mg) exactly as it was prescribed for you. Do not take in doses which are either larger or for longer than recommended by your doctor.
Before you start to use Isotretinoin 10 mg (Accutane 10 mg) read the patient information leaflet. Any questions or doubts should be addressed with your doctor.
Each prescription of Isotretinoin 10 mg (Accutane 10 mg) must be filled within 7 days from the date it was prescribed by your doctor. One time you can get only 30 day supply of Isotretinoin 10 mg (Accutane 10 mg) only.
If you missed a dose take Isotretinoin 10 mg (Accutane 10 mg) as soon as you remember. If it is too close to your next dose then skip the missed dose and take the regular dose. Should never double the dose in order to make up for the missed dose.
To prevent the Isotretinoin 10 mg (Accutane 10 mg) getting stuck on the esophagus causing pain, always take it with a full glass of water. Do not suck or chew on the capsule. Take Isotretnoin with food or milk. Take this medication for the entire prescribed time.
Your blood needs to be tested time to time to check if there are any harmful substances. Your liver function needs to be tested.
Precautions
Isotretinoin 10 mg (Accutane 10 mg) is available under a special program called iPLEDGE where you will be registered into the program and you will be required to sign documents stating that you understand the dangers of this medication and that you would use birth control as required by this program.
Isotretinoin 10 mg (Accutane 10 mg) should not be taken if you are allergic to Isotretinoin 10 mg (Accutane 10 mg) or parabens of if you are pregnant or plan to get pregnant.
Prior to taking Isotretinoin 10 mg (Accutane 10 mg)inform your doctor if you
- have diabetes
- or family have history of mental illnesses and depression
- have heart disease or high cholesterol
- have asthma
- have osteoporosis or any other bone disorders
- have intestinal disorders such as Crohn'sdisease, inflammatory bowel disease, ulcerative colitis
- have liver disease
If taken during pregnancy Isotretinoin 10 mg (Accutane 10 mg) can cause severe, life threatening birth defects. A single dose of Isotretinoin 10 mg (Accutane 10 mg) can cause major birth defects to the baby's heart, lungs, face, eyes and ears. Do not use Isotretinoin 10 mg (Accutane 10 mg) if you are pregnant.
If you have your tubes tied also you need to take birth control pills while you take Isotretinoin 10 mg (Accutane 10 mg).
Prior to start taking Isotretinoin 10 mg (Accutane 10 mg) you will need to have a negative pregnancy test for 30days. Before each prescription is filled you are required to take a pregnancy test. After completing your medication you need to take a pregnancy test as well.
Written agreements should be drafted stating that you will be using two types of birth control methods 30 days before you begin Isotretinoin 10 mg (Accutane 10 mg) ending 30 days after you complete your medication. A primary and a secondary form of birth control must be included together.
Side Effects
Most people do not experience any serious side effects. However, you may experience the following side effects.
- feeling drowsy or dizzy
- back pain and joint pain
- changes in your toe nails and finger nails
- feeling nervous
- dryness in the lips, mouth
IF you have any of the below mentioned symptoms you need to get medical help immediately.
- blurred vision, pain behind your eyes, headache
- hearing problems, ringing in your ears, hearing loss
- depressed mood, hallucinations, thoughts of suicide
- seizures (convulsions)
- insomnia
- jaundice (yellowing of skin, eyes), dark urine, loss of appetite, clay colour stools
- sudden numbness or weakness especially one side of the body
- nausea, vomiting, severe pain in your upper stomach
- severe diarrhea, rectal bleeding, tarry stools
- bone pain, joint stiffness, fracture
- severe blistering, peeling, red skin rash
Interactions
Inform your doctor if you are taking
- seizure medications phenytoin (Dilantin)
- steroids (prednisone and others)
- a tetracycline
Do not drink alcohol while you are on Isotretinoin 10 mg (Accutane 10 mg) as it may have unpleasant side effects such as nausea, tingly feeling, rapid heartbeat, warmth or redness under your skin and vomiting.
