How to use Beclomethasone Dipropionate + Levosalbutamol?
Ensure to read and understand the Patient Information Leaflet provided by your pharmacist before you start using Aerocort. If there are any doubts ask your doctor or pharmacist.
As directed by your doctor inhale this medication by mouth usually twice a day. Your dosage will be decided upon your medical condition, age, your response to the medication.
You do not need to prime or shake this inhaler before use. Also you do not use a spacer device with this medication. If you are prescribed to use 2 puffs then you need to wait at least one minute between the puffs. If you are prescribed other inhalers at the same time, wait at least a minute apart between each medication and use Aerocort at last.
After each use of the inhaler you must gargle and rinse your mouth well with water in order to prevent oral yeast infection (mouth thrush), dry mouth and hoarseness. Do not swallow the rinse water.
Number of inhalations used has to be noted down and discard the canister once the labeled number of inhalations on the package has been reached, even if it still has medication left in the canister. Do not wash the inhaler device or put any part of it in water, just wipe it clean with a cloth.
Take Aerocort inhaler exactly as it was prescribed for you. Do not take in doses which are either larger or for longer than what is recommended by your doctor. It will not improve your condition any faster and your risk of side effects will increase. Make sure to take Aerocort inhaler regularly to get the most benefit from it.
You must consult your doctor before you stop the medication. Suddenly stopping the medication is not advisable as some conditions may become worse when the medication is stopped abruptly. Gradually decreasing the dose is the recommended way.
If you are prescribed different corticosteroid such as prednisone to be taken regularly by mouth, you should not stop taking them unless directed by your doctor. Withdrawal symptoms such as dizziness, headache, nausea, weakness, weight loss, muscle painand tiredness may be experienced.
Precaution
Prior to taking Aerocort inhaler inform your doctor if you have
- any allergies to it or any other allergies
- eye problems such as glaucoma or cataracts
- any infections such herpes or tuberculosis
- bone loss such osteoporosis
If you have been taking a corticosteroid by mouth prior to this treatment within the past 12 months and switched to this medication, or if you have been taking a higher dose than normal for extended period of time, your body may find it difficult to respond to physical stress. Inform your doctor or dentist before having surgery, emergency treatment of if you getting treatment for serious illness that you are taking this medication.
If you develop extreme tiredness or weight loss inform your doctor right away. It is recommended that you carry a warning card or medical ID bracelet which states that you use corticosteroid medications with you at all times.
Signs of infection may get masked by this medication. Therefore it is more likely to get infections or may worsen present infection if there are any. Anyone with any infection that can be spread to others (measles, flu or chicken pox) avoid contact. If you have been exposed to any infection consult your doctor immediately.
If you are having surgery prior to your surgery, inform your doctor or the dentist of all the products (prescription, non- prescription medications, herbal products, vitamin and supplements) you are taking.
Just as much as this medication may slow down a child’s growth if used for a long time, poorly controlled asthma can also slow down growth of a child as well. It is unknown on the effect on final adult height. Consult your doctor regularly so your child’s height can be checked regularly.
Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or nursing an infant. Discuss with your doctor the benefits and the risks involved.
Side effects
Your doctor prescribed this medicine after carefully analyzing the benefits over the risks involved. Most people do not experience any serious side effects.
- hoarseness
- coughing
- dry / irritated throat
- voice changes
- bad taste in the mouth
Inform your doctor immediately if you experience these rare but serious side effects mentioned below.
- puffy face
- white patches in your tongue / mouth
- bone pain
- unusual hair growth
- mood swings
- slow wound healing
- agitation
- depression
- vision problems
- signs of an infection (fever, chills, sore throat)
- easily bleeding or bruising
- increased thirst / urination
A serious allergic reaction is extremely rare with Aerocort. In case you show the following symptoms get to the emergency clinic
- itching
- severe dizziness
- trouble breathing
- swelling in the face, throat, tongue, throat
Interactions
Inform your doctor about any medications that you are taking including prescription medications, over the counter medications, vitamins, supplements and herbal remedies. Do not start, stop and change the dosage of any medicine without your doctor's permission.
